Los Angeles DJ/Producer Jose Marquez’s sound is a result of being brought up around Afro-Latin, Caribbean and other World Music at a young age. Always intrigued by electronic sounds as well, Jose's mission has been to fuse his love of global rhythms with the dance floor. Jose succeeded when he burst onto the scene in 2010 with memorable remixes & edits of artists such as Celia Cruz, Nina Simone, Oumou Sangare and many others. In less than two years’ time, Jose was blessed with the opportunity to introduce his sound to the world by remixing for renowned House music labels such as Tribe Records, Djoon Experience, Vega Records, Yoruba Records, Wonderwheel Recording and most recently, the iconic NYC label responsible for the explosion of Latin music in the 70's, Fania Records!
Mali Blues is not only the title of the track, but is a specific genre from this musically rich and diverse region of West Africa. Mali is credited with giving birth to American Blues, a vocal and rhythmic instrumental musical form of cultural struggle, work and love songs derived from the African-American population in the southern states. The roots of Blues can be traced back to the traditional rhythms and oral music of the people of Mali. The idea for Mali Blues was conceived in Paris when Tribe Director Zepherin Saint came across 3 musicians from Mali and decided to capture their talents in the studio. These raw recordings were then sent to Jose Marquez, who is known for working with various styles of traditional African and Latin music and producing heavy percussive driven dance tracks that speak to today's clubs.
Now with a remix by Arno E. Mathieu.

I first heard this self-affirming song on QB Smith’s show a few years ago. And I knew this song was made for me. It’s so close to my heart and dreams. Thank you Diviniti. Thank you Josh. I play this whenever I’m feeling low and uninspired. Music heals! Andile Buka
